Travel Time & National Minimum Wage

Travel Time and the National Minimum Wage aren’t just technicalities – they’re essential elements of fair pay.
We’re committed to raising visibility, tackling poor practices, and ensuring every care worker is treated lawfully and respectfully

We are working with FairerCarerPay to campaign on these issues

NACAS & FairerCarerPay

NACAS is working with Fairer Carer Pay, an organisation dedicated to advocating for better pay conditions for home care workers.

In many parts of the United Kingdom, home care workers are still paid less than minimum wage as care is not considered a “skilled job”. We are here to challenge that perception.

Care requires emotional, physical, and mental competence. It involves long working hours and a lot of commuting, often causing burnout. If your job involves taking care of the lives of vulnerable adults, why is the pay on the same level as a restaurant staff member?

Fairer Carer Pay is a service for home care workers to recognise and fight the pay disparity. Our intelligent calculator will help you find out if the total pay that you take home, including the time spent travelling, is even above minimum wage.

Poling, from Warwickshire, said she regularly was not paid the HMRC rate for her travel time between patients and also worked well over her shift.
