The UK Government have announced a Public Inquiry into its handling of the current Covid-19 pandemic. We now know that the inquiry process has begun and that the social care workforce has and continues to face significant challenges as a result of the pandemic, and these challenges need to be made known.
As a professional body, NACAS is in a position to make sure its members voices are heard. With this in mind, we are pleased to announce that NACAS has been designated a “Core Participant” in Module 6 of the Covid-19 Public inquiry. This module of the inquiry will examine, in public, the impact Covid-19 had on the care sector including the effect of decisions the government made, the impact of Covid-19 on carers and those receiving care, and may also include an evaluation of criticisms of care workers which were made during the pandemic by, for example, Matt Hancock.
Our partner Hogan Lovells are representing NACAS in regard to Module 6 of the Public Inquiry and to ensure individual voices of care workers, service managers and anyone else in the sector who would like to be involved are heard.
We are pleased to be able to play a prominent role in this most important of inquiries. It is only through understanding the issues that social care workers really face that people will be able to establish better processes going forward.
The first Module 6 Preliminary hearing was held on March 19th 2024, the second was held on 5th February 2025
