Introducing the Voluntary Care Professional Register
Following a period of consultation and research, we pleased to announce the launch of a voluntary register for social care workers in England.
The register has been developed by the National Association of Care & Support Workers in partnership with the Institute of Health & Social Care Management.
The voluntary register has been developed independently and without any official mandate from government. As such, the register does not place any obligation on anyone to register and will not have any regulatory function or be qualification based. However, it will be peer led, values based, have an expectation from those who have chosen to be on the register to observe the cultures and behaviours of those expected of a care professional, adhere to a Code of Conduct, and to carry out their work to the highest of standards.
It will run initially as a pilot for a period of six months. In that time the purpose is to evidence the need for mandatory registration. It is hoped that all evidence obtained throughout the pilot period, will help inform the discussion around mandatory registration with central government.
If there is sufficient demand for the register to remain active beyond the initial 6-month pilot period, it will continue to do so.
